Small question about the registration. The thread mentions "League 2009-2010". Does this means we register for the whole year? I'd probably like to register for 1 month, but I'm not sure i'll still be there after that, so...

Spez yes, of course, you may register for as many months as you want. I just wanted to separate a 'new' registration thread from the old one.

welcome to the league, all new & returning players. I'm looking forward to sharpening my wits once again against you all.
Whats the chance of changing the rules to allow for 'friendly' matches this year?

The montly rule and Pairings are up. Welcome to December round of the League.
Maven I think a friendly\ladder is fine if both players are OK with this. Just don't forget to talk about it with your opponent and mention that "this is a December league game" on the first turn =)

So, judging by my pairings, it seems the Guild has it out for me this month...

So first rule clarification question - if the caster of mimicry is themselves enchanted that turn, do they get credit for submitting the same gesture they force their opponent to gesture, or do they need to actually show the gesture they made their opponent gesture?

IMO, I would need to show the same gesture that you do. If they match, it's a point to you. If they don't, then it's a point to me.

If you cast mimicry at self, your hand shows the same gesture as mimicry owner's hand (because it is the same hand, lol). So you gain 1 point (because you successfully used mimicry) and lose 1 point (for being a victim to a mimicry) resulting in 0 points. Which is fair, imho.
If there are two mimicries in play, you don't get points unless resulting gestures of caster and victim are the same. So yeah, if both players chose to mess with the same hand, either they'll 'guess' and charm the opponent into the same gesture (both get +1 to self and -1 to opponent, resulting in 0 sum) or into the different gestures (getting -1/+1 both, again resulting in 0 sum). But is they mess with different hands, both are likely to get +1/-1 (and zero sum again).
All in all, you can't get points by casting mimicry at self or when having 2 mimicries in play (unless one player decides to not care about hands and use it as a classical 'charm', in which case it is instant +2/-1 per tunr=) A fair and balanced spell it is.

I think the case in point was is the game that I'm playing again Ellipsis.
I've been hit by mimicry, on the same turn I paralyses Ellipsis.
So, the question lies- will I need to be charmed into the "entered" gesture, or to the gesture that will wind up being thrown (and because of the paralysis- it adds a luck factor without knowledge of which hand I'm going to effect.)

I see. Actually Ellipsis was the one who suggested Mimicry rule (which is in turn an alteration of Mimicry by zugzwang), so I'm not sure if I should answer this question or just redirect it to Ellipsis =)
But IMHO you gain points only if resulting gestures are the same for two warlocks. So if you have "para versus mimicry" position, yes, in order to get points mimicry player should "guess" which of his hands is to be paralysed and respectively charm respective hand of an opponent.

I'm inclined to agree, even though it's to my disadvantage at the moment. Wanted to hear your opinion on it, though.

Judging by the participants, things must be getting mighty lonely on the Isle.
