And so, after weeks of buildup, the battle for the Orb was finally set to begin. The warlocks, who had until this time been carrying out their battles in the dark alleyways and dirty pubs were finally prepared to do battle in the open arena for the honor and glory of their clan, as well as a nice shiny orb. But one question remained, and it was Wastelin who stepped up to ask it:
"So, uh, Slartucker... how do we actually start out this competition?"
Ignoring xade, who had apparently decided he didn't need to wait for any sort of "official" start before launching a salvo of missiles at a cluster of GBA warlocks, Slartucker stepped up to answer the question: "You start just like you'd start any other battle."
"And how is that?"
At this, Awall emerged from a back room, carrying a scrap of parchment that had most definitely been prepared well in advance and certainly not hastily scribbled together in the last five minutes when he realized he was running horribly behind. "Well, most warlocks start out a battle by casting disruptions," he said. "Thus, we shall all start out the competition by doing the same." Saying this, he unrolled the parchment and hung it from the wall. The parchment read as follows:
LEAGUE RULE FOR JANUARY 2009
Once you cast a mindspell, you may not cast it again until after
(1) You have cast two other, different mindspells
OR
(2) Five consecutive turns pass in which you cast no mindspells.
Minor Exception: Paralysis may be cast two consecutive turns in a row by the same hand. Casting it once will stay "disable" it as per the rule, though.
Also: Mindspells targeted at Nobody do not count for any part of this rule.[/color]
The six mindspells are Charm Person, Charm Monster, Paralysis, Fear, Amnesia, and Maladroit/Confusion.
As always, if you accidentally break the league rule, you should surrender immediately.
SCORING
Standard Scoring:
+10 for winning the battle
-10 for losing the battle
0 for double surrender or double death
Additional League Rule Scoring:
+1 for each DIFFERENT mindspell you successfully hit the opposing warlock with (not countered, mirrored, or dispelled)
-1 for each one you are successfully hit by
Exception: for Charm Monster, the point is awarded/lost for successfully charming a monster controlled by opposing warlock/yourself
+3 if, during any segment of the match, you cast all six mindspells in sequence without repeating a single one. They need not be cast successfully, and they do not have to be cast on consecutive turns. (Paralysis may be cast as specified in the league rule.)
-3 if your opponent does that
As with the rule, mindspells targeted at Nobody do not affect any scoring rules at all.
(No more than +10 or -10 may be earned for a single battle from the Additional League Rule Scoring category. Points may be counted above those values if the rule awards enough points, but the final value is truncated at 10. This makes it possible, in theory, to earn +18 for additional rule #1 and -9 for additional rule #2, and end up with +9 and not +1.)
CLARIFICATIONS
Banked mindspells count as "cast" on the turn they are released.
If you cast two mindspells in the same turn, even though Warlocks technically processes them in a certain order, they are considered as being cast at the same time. Thus, neither one will count towards re-enabling the other mindspell. They will both work for the +3 bonus, however.
If you are charmed or paralyzed into casting an illegal mindspell, you will still have to surrender -- beware!
(EDIT: I left out an important word above -- "DIFFERENT" -- you only get +1 for landing Amnesia the first time, etc.)
New Clarifications:
Only "normal time" turns count for the rule -- hasted and time stopped turns do not.
Suppose Warlock A casts Amnesia and Warlock B casts Magic Mirror. The Amnesia bounces and hits Warlock A. Warlock A counts as having cast Amnesia. Warlock B counts as having successfully hit his opponent with Amnesia. However, since Warlock B did not cast the spell, he does not count as having cast Amnesia.
New Clarification 1/5/09:
As the rule states,
The +1 for PSDD is given for successfully charming your OPPONENT'S monster.
The -1 for PSDD is given for YOUR monster being successfully charmed by your opponent.
