I have to admit I missed the line about dying giving more points, myself... That's why I fought all of mine to the death though I should have surrendered a couple of them. That said, my determination to handle all the games the same way actually eked out a win for me in this last game I just finished, when my opponent decided to forgo a counterspell for the guaranteed win on the *next* turn while I was desperately keeping the pressure on. (http://games.ravenblack.net/warlocks?num=62270&full=1) yeah, you caught me being greedy and going for the kill. I was hoping you'd hit the goblin to relieve the pressure... oh well good work I knew I couldn't hit the goblin because the moment I let the pressure off *you* I'd be dead. (Actually, I think I forgot about it aside from keeping a shield up all the time...)

We had a lot of discussion in the January chat thread about the new rules. We didn't really discuss the December rules except a few comments on F/P early on.
What did people reckon about the openings? What worked, what didn't?
One thing that I found when I sat down to think about possible openings - which I didn't find obvious at first impression - was that because not only do you not want to open D/P, but you know that your opponent isn't going to, you can start looking at all kinds of alternative openings that were previously written off because they were appalling against D/P (which might even be great against other things) - and not just the standard alternatives to D/P.
Another thing that surprised me was the number of my opponents who opened D/W (there was quite a bit of it going around in other games, too - not just mine - I wandered around all the already-started league games before I accepted mine). I was under the impression that the only thing D/W was good for was against D/P! And yet here were loads of people using it in games when they knew that was the one thing their opponents wouldn't open with! Did I miss something on that? What were their motives?
And to everyone else - what did you open with, and why? If the league rule was the same in another month, would you open with something different? Or did your method work?

I kinda like S/P. it's biggest weakness, I find, is that D/P 9 times out of 10 beats it. Against anything else though, it more than holds it's own.

S/P was definitely the biggest winner. I saw a lot of that. S/P does well against both S/W and F/P.
I didn't see D/W, and agree it's an odd choice for the format.

Yeah, when I looked at the openings before I started, I thought S/P was the way to go, and it seemed to follow through as well.
Strangely, I didn't see any S/W at all - mostly F/P and D/W.
