Rama. So, I though it might be a little bit of fun- just as a side thing- to run the First (and posibly only) Alt-o-rama-rama. 09. The rules of Alt-o-rama-rama run as follows. 1. You must create a new account that runs by the name: alt_XXXXX 2. Even if you register your account, you *must* play by the rules of a non-registee (create up to 3 games, play up to 5) 3. You can only accept the challenges of other alts. 4. Non-alts can take up your challenges. 5. First to 1700 wins. 6. Anonymity is not only acceptable- It's encouraged. There are two challenges involved in the Alt-o-rama-rama. Firstly, to hit 1700 first. Secondly, once this target has been meet - I'll be running a quick comp to see how many people can match each of the alts to their real account. So, would anyone be interested? is it bad form to suck so much elo out of the system? sounds like fun aye

It would be fun for us, but not so much for the poor saps that end up playing someone 400 elo above them.
heh.

Well, that's why we have the alt_ in our titles.

Yup, definitely tempting... I wonder if Slarty, Tali, ExD, or any other out of reasonable ELO range peeps might feel unconflicted enough to go for it?

considering the majority of matches will be against other alt_players, I was hoping that we might draw one out of the woodworks. A risk free way of mixing it with the best of the moment- without any bias when playing.

I have a strong suggestion for a rules addition: Add that alts created for this challenge should ONLY play other users beginning with "Alt_". I think that is the only fair way to (1) keep the Elo goal fair, and (2) avoid messing with the already established Elo system.

how would one stop a newbie from accepting an open "Alt_" challenge, though?

Exactly. Perhaps putting in the message: Alt Challenge: Alt's only to accept please. In all games- in order to deter the majority of accepters.

One solution is to not make open challenges. I don't think I've made any in years. Some newbies can be fun to play, but so many of them aren't, even beyond the ones that never enter a move, that enter P/P, or that stab every turn. Blech That said, low Elo alts playing low Elo newbies is not really going to disrupt the balance of anything.

Anyone in? Wouldn't responding to that sort of do away with the anonymity?

I thought the idea was that we would know who has alts, but not which alt was theirs, and try to figure it out from there.
