Ok, so I decided to make a new thread on this subject to avoid derailment. I had an idea of replacing paralyze with a spell called comfort, which would be:
FFW Your opponent cannot use W on either hand next turn.
Whether it's balanced or not, I really don't know. Any suggestions will be considered. I figure it is pretty powerful, so it has to end with a W..ending with an S gives you a free antispell, ending with a P gives you a free ogre, ending with an F is just silly. A clap? Gross.
So with this spell, you have more options to fake out of a Lightning Bolt. Cause Heavy may become more useful. Initiative will change more frequently. The games will be faster and more intense. Hell, maybe this will even somehow break the D/P loop. There are cons, as well, I'm sure, but I'd like to try it out. So if anyone wants to challenge me to a VF FFW match, just send it straight to me and I'll accept happily.

Sounds nice. May be we should try this out as a league rule?

don't forget, if it is a league rule, you gotta be carefully with mindspells... cause the game doesn't know that you weren't *really* amniesiaed...

Maybe also consider that calm prevents the target from going P / W .... as a sort of opposite of fear. Which raises the penalty for casting it at yourself... takes away the counterspell. Probably needs to be playtested to see if merited.

opposite of fear could be DWS?

D already has 2 disruptions though... and permanancy would be too strong.

Plus, the point is to replace para, and give F some worth. Making your opponent unable to shield OR wave seems way too powerful. Already, making them unable to W is quite amazing, in my opinion, and adding in the best feature of the Maladroit spell just puts it over the top.
P.S. That is a very good point about the enchantments not cancelling out. I guess if you played with this rule, if there's a turn where FFW is threatened, both players will have to target all their mind spells at nobody and announce their targets via tells.

Antispell nothing. FFS gives you a free Fireball, FFP makes it a free Troll. FFW seems fine, although FFD might be a decent alternative. I assume Disease becomes DSFFWc?

I'm not sure that FFD would work, thanks to lightning bolt...

Oh... right. My bad. FFW looks like the best call then.

Actually, I think I would prefer to change para's gestures to DSFFF. Strange, I know, but it preserves Disease in its current form.
Edit: Maybe that makes DSFFFW a really good line? Yeah. Not sure how much I like that idea anymore.

It doesn't become all that much better than DSFFFF. I think it's fine. To be honest, one of the things I've been most concerned about when finding a replacement for paralysis is keeping Disease appropriately balanced. I think I like where it is now, tipping it one way or the other could have far-reaching effects.
We might want to consider instead making para SFFF, though, to retain it as a possibility for dummying a summon into. Then again, SFFW works just as well for that, so maybe we don't need it.

I like the looks of SFFF, plus the snap at the beginning still fits with the "gesture" - snap and wave finger. And it preserves Disease?
