Option 1 would maintain the same general requirements (period of near-total dominance with fair competition present, sizable Elo gulf) and would mean we'd have the old 7 + BioLogIn, with "Old Master" going back to "Master".
Option 2 would allow the requirements to adapt to the current environment (where domination has become demonstrably rarer and more difficult to achieve) and would mean we'd have the old 7 as "Old Master" + Bio and Toyo as a different but equal title ("New Master", "Neo-Master", whatever). This would also make it more likely that other top players would be recognized in the future.

I think Option 1 would be better long-term; what will "Neo-Master" mean in 2 or 3 years when BioLogIn has retired and we have a new dominant player?

Bump because this is actually the more recent poll on the subject -- which apparently *I* had also forgotten about. Time to change some titles...

I didn't see this before, but needless to say I'm happy for the change. I feel somehow vindicated.
And I still love my title.

At least *something* good came out of that whole mess, right?

Technically love my new title =)
And since Toyo now 'qualifies' for Master title via both 'criteria', I can vote for the 1st option...

Toyo doesn't qualify, does he? I mean, I'd love for him to qualify -- recognizing Toyo's greatness was one of the reasons I adopted the much-maligned two-title system in the first place -- but I don't see how "period of near-total dominance" has been met. If his winning streak/awesome Elo continue another few weeks, then I'll gladly buy in.

I'd have to agree that Toyo doesn't qualify. I don't have anything against the guy at all, but he's never really had a period where he could give me a run for my money. Current period, maybe he's improved, but I think some consistency in Elo is necessary before he can get himself seperated from the xade-succat-awall type elite players.
