Welcome to the Warlock's Refuge Tournament, 2007!
This is a single player (non-melee) tournament for Warlocks. This tournament is meant to be FUN for everyone who participates. The new format ensures that everyone plays in at least three or four matches. Players of all skill levels are encouraged to register!
The tournament will last from September through November, depending on how many warlocks sign up. All information about the tournament can be found in this forum. Once the tournament begins, I will also send out updates via email for anyone who desires them.
REGISTRATION
Register by posting a reply in the Registration Thread mentioning your Warlocks username. If you don't already have an account at the Refuge Forums, you'll need to create one -- the whole process takes less than 30 seconds.
Registration is first come, first served. However, I will try to adapt the tournament structure to accomodate as many warlocks as would like to participate.
OFFICIAL RULES
1. If any disputes arise, they will be settled by the Judge. The Judge cannot participate in the tournament. The Judge for this tournament is Slartucker.
2. The first round of the tournament will be conducted World Cup style. Players will be placed in pods, and each pod will conduct a round robin (i.e., you play each other player in your pod once) with simultaneous games. The top players from each pod will advance to the second round. (Size of pods and number of advancing players per pod will depend on the tournament size. 2/4 and 2/5 are most likely.)
3. The remaining rounds will be single elimination. These rounds will consist of best-of-three matches.
Registration
4. A single player may register only one warlock. If a player has more than one warlock, she must register the one with the highest ELO rating.
5. Warlocks who have completed very few games may be rejected. This is to prevent "stuffing" the tournament.
Game Settings
6. Both players should mention the tournament round number in the first round of the game, to confirm it.
7. All games must be 2 Player and Friendly. (Not Ladder or V. Friendly.)
8. All games must be Maladroit and ParaFC. They may not be ParaFDF.
(Explanation: Maladroit and ParaFC have become standard fare. Confusion reduces the effect of skill somewhat, which is inappropriate for a tournament. ParaFDF is widely deprecated.)
9. Games should be set as Fast.
Time
10. In order to help the tournament progress at a reasonable speed, single elimination matches will begin as soon as their participants are done with the previous round.
11. Players are encouraged to enter moves multiple times per day when they are able. Obviously, this will vary, but players are expected to enter enough moves to complete their games within the time limit.
12. The time limit for the first round is ten days. The time limits for best-of-three matches are two weeks per match. After this point, unfinished games will be evaluated subjectively by the Judge. If one player has a meaningful lead, he will be declared the victor. If there is no clear winner, neither player will receive credit for that game. (Players are free to complete games that go to time if they wish, but the outcome will not count for the tournament.)
13. If this would deadlock a best-of-three match, the players will be given a set time to finish their game, or begin a third one.
14. If a player's opponent is moving very slowly, that player should notify the Judge immediately (long before the time limit is up, if possible). The Judge will issue a warning for slow play. If the game then goes to time, the Judge may (his option) extend its play time, or if only one player entered moves at a reasonable speed, declare that player the winner.
15. A round's time begins when the Judge sends out pairings.
16. If a player disappears for more than a few days without explanation, he will be disqualified.
Phew, that was a lot of details. See you in the tournament!
