Are we gunna start "discussing"? Cause I know a certain Isle that want to be represented in the Warlock universe... So what do we think? How many clans? unlimited? or should there be a cap on how many? And if there is a cap, how many should it be? should it be an odd number or even? Should the clans themselves have a cap on members? or is it just going to be open for a free for all? Will there be any "sanctioned" clan battles, or is it all for RPG love and bragging rights? --------------------- And now my thoughs. I like the idea of a set number of clans. But then, that's kind of elitist of me... But still, 5 clans (I like 5... it's a good number.) I like the idea of a certain amount of permanancy within what to expect. Mainly so we don't get a swag of 2 member clans who end up consisting an active player and an idle. I think any number of members within a clan is a good idea. And I don't like the idea of balancing them out... I like the idea of having a draft of some kind at the start... but then, I know a number of people that I want to be in a clan with. Also members flowing between clans will be expected, so I guess there won't be any point in a draft... I think sanctioned events will be a good idea down the track, but until the clans are establised and we have an idea where it's headed, it should be all about the bragging rights... Discuss.

I like to suggest that a touch of history be included in the clan rolls. There are Warlocks who really don't fit well in organized groups, who prefer to choose when and with whom they partner - every time the choice is available. Removed Black Rose reference to avoid angst and FUD Closed clans and similar groups are all well and good, but there will always be a need for a place for solitary wanderers to congregate, to share news, to quietly listen to all that goes on, and pass information on to further one's standing in whatever halls one appears within. Role play in Warlocks, it's about time to try again. The question remains, how should the clan system handle alts?

I like the idea of a set number of clans. But then, that's kind of elitist of me... But still, 5 clans (I like 5... it's a good number.) Five is a good starting number, plus it's expandable after review of how things are progressing. I think any number of members within a clan is a good idea. And I don't like the idea of balancing them out... An alternate way is to set up the various groups with guiding principles/descriptions and then have people join the ones that sound good to them. No need to be concerned about balance of numbers in the early stages.

I'll be posting about the clan system this weekend. As mentioned in the schedule, end of december is for discussion of the system, beginning of january for clan applciations, end of january for member applications, clans take effect in feb.
Also: Black Rose will almost certainly not be allowed.

There is a reason I'm not calling them covens. They aren't exactly like the old covens. If there's a good proposal for a Black Rose clan I'll certainly hear it out, but it will have a hard time fitting in. (Don't ask why, just wait and look at the clan rules.) And frankly I'd rather leave all that acrimony and bitterness behind.

No worries, you'd left the door open in an earlier thread somewhere... Just thought I should say something to be sure ancient history was, well, history. {btw, I hope alts are specifically covered in the soon to be posted rules... and I hope they are either banned outright or required to be declared -- but I'll accept the rules, how ever they treat the subject}

alts are implicitly disallowed by the basic league rules emphasizing the honor system and reasonable conduct.

can someone talk me through the whole black rose thing please? i was far too young to know about it and also the danger of allowing warlocks to pick their clans is that you'll end up with a very elite group that are guaranteed to win every match e.g. Slarty, ExDeath, Xade, Rycchus, etc and also other very defined groups- probably another group that is very weak, a group of around 1700-1800 ELO and things like that.

Laxen I didn't know you were awake! I was worried about that with clans, but if the size isn't limited then if that does happen then there's no reason why a clan of ten lower-ELO Warlocks can't beat a clan of four or five higher-ELO Warlocks. Personally, I wouldn't exclude due to ELO - I would want to be in a clan with people I talk to and people I get on with. Goodness knows where you got the impression I'm guaranteed to win every match

You guys are making a lot of incorrect assumptions :-)
I will try to get the rules draft finished and posted tonight or tomororw, but no guarantees, as I'm vacationing.

I assume nothing. Not even that the clans will happen. Perhaps they are a ruse to cover your diabolical ulterior motives. Which will undoubtedly include taking over the world.

...a ruse to cover your diabolical ulterior motives. Which will undoubtedly include taking over the world. Hah, too late... Slarty's already taken over the Warlocks world
