So there's no significant advantage to winning your initial pairing by more than roughly three turns? (Yes, I know there there is (or at least could be) a strong advantage in having those three turns; I'm just pointing out that after that you are not rewarded for your swiftness.)

Hmm, I think my original plan to only allow specific spells to the waiting warlock is better. Counter, Shield, Protection, Remove, Cure. And maybe it would be better if the waiting Warlock couldn't be targeted.
Well, even if it isn't practicable I think it's a fun idea. I might come back to it another time.

Perhaps at least cure wounds would be acceptable...then there is a concrete advantage for taking your opponent out quickly.

Bump- so, I liked this idea, but it never got any agreeance on the transition period.
Anyone want to give it a crack with the following rules.
Waiting Warlock can cast the following- Counter, Shield, Protection, Remove, Cure, Mirror.
Waiting warlock can be targetted.
Monsters can be brought into the next duel.

Waiting Warlock can cast the following- Counter, Shield, Protection, Remove, Cure. Waiting warlock can be targetted. Add mirror to the list; otherwise, the waiting warlock might end up eating a FoD when an active warlock defends it with invisibility or mirror threat.

Alright, Mirror is added. So we got Vermont, OurJake and... Mike- was that a volunteer? Or just a comment?
