Heres a thread for the best. Why do you stop playing when you get to a certain level? Is it that you want to preserve your name or record?
I was once a 1998 elo and fell all the way to 1780...mind you maybe i wasnt paying attention but my interest in the game has not waned. It is a couple of minutes a day...you check your email, log a few moves...it's fun. Why do the best wimp out?
Exdeath, Slucker? you could potentially and mathematically become better than Taliesin, might even entise him back into a game...but you chill. Sit back and play a few V.F's or nothing at all. I understand not playing a game for low benefit (anything under 1750), but why stop? Being on top means sitting there and playing the odd challenger that accumulates enough points to be worthy? Well maybe. Is it a worry that, if, the longer you played every warlock, the lower your elo would become due to bad luck/decisions/choices due to fatigue?
Kick the arse out of the little people and the medium people. Lose a game or two.
What do you think?

For the best, it isn't a couple of minutes a day. I have been known to spend a half hour per move looking ahead; and while this has become less frequent as my analyses have piled up and my understanding of spellflow has evolved, I almost never make moves quickly. And I enjoy spending so much time in analysis, but it's time I don't have right now. My job this year has been remarkably draining. So that's why I've stopped, at least.

Nah actually I would gladly play friendlies with anyone over 1750-1800 Elo, but if I start a challenge with that requirement, nobody honors it. I sent friendly challenges to 4-5 players one time. Right now, I've been spending 2 weeks thinking about my next move vs Slartucker, so I doubt I have time for much more.

The main reason I retired Taliesin was that it was more stress than I needed, and I didn't feel I had much left to prove. I was a trifle less than a hundred ELO points clear of Slarty at the time, and a couple of hundred clear of the nearest rivals after that. I'd made my reputation, and that was the problem: I felt I had to maintain it. I always liked to mess around, and when playing VFs with people, which I always did fairly copiously, I'd often do a lot of things I wouldn't normally do in ladder play: open with a clap, maybe, or go for some exorbitantly baroque finish at the expense of a clean banal win, or break para early because I thought it ugly. However, people treated these as serious games, and I'd find some of them boasting afterwards that they'd bested me on one occasion or another - or even, failing that, that they'd reduced me to low health before losing. This made me take VFs more seriously, and the fun palls when you can't ever allow yourself to lose.

Yeah taliesin, remember that one time I smoked you back in the day? Caught you trying to sneak a P in when I had a charm on you. That's right, my skills forced you to preemptively surrender. That battle was epic...

I can see all of your points. I do marvel at the time it takes to plan a move...I will usually look 2 or 3 moves aghead, guess the psychology of my opponent and launch away...unless i'm playing real time, it is quite fast. Meditation can often lead to over thinking, no?
I guess the reason i started this post is because it always seems to me that there is one or two head honcho on top...i 'd love to see ten over 1900 ELO players duelling it out...I like to watch big impact ladder games, like the current Slarty Exdeath saga (i don't think saga is the right word...). Better still, clmbing the ladder, improving upcoming warlocks, stimulating the popularity of the game...all this can be helped with more duelling. As far as i know, we are mostly hard-working adults, but personally i find 10-15 minutes of warlocks a day a good motivator. Gets my mind ticking first thing in the morning and clicks me into relax mode when i get home.
Anyway, thanks for your replies guys and good work smoking Tali, Freesoul, he probably deserved it.

like the current Slarty Exdeath saga (i don't think saga is the right word "Slowga" may be a more appropriate choice.
