I'm not making any promises. In fact, I'm saying it right now: This is not going to happen anytime soon and probably not ever.
But just to chew the fat, imagine for a moment that I'm writing a new web-based waving hands client. Which features would be cool to have? Here's my tentative list:
1. active play: The moment your opponent makes a move, you see it immediately, so you can play 'live' far more easily. (For the devvers out there who say: That can't be done in HTTP, look up 'comet', I've used it before).
2. user lists. Basically each player has an address book of sorts, and is capable of marking any user as 'neutral' (default), 'banned', and 'friend'. No banned (by you) player can ever join a match you've created, and you can optionally configure games to allow only people marked as 'friend'.
3. custom spellbooks. I would create more spells than the standard warlocks and 'ship' with a couple of spellbooks for the usual variants. (spellbook = a mapping between gesture sets and spells). However, any player can create a new spellbook simply by picking and choosing a bunch, and launch a game with one of these. This should allow almost endless variation. Gestures and uncoupled from effects, so that you can resurrect old play formats to relive how annoying they were (such as SPF being anti-spell). It would allow for the players themselves to create FDF.
4. ladder and ELO would be maintained because I like both of those, but melee games do not reflect on your killed/lost/won numbers.
5. built in nawglan's archive.
6. stats transfer. Send a special message to a special ravenblack's warlocks user and your stats from RB's warlocks gets attached to a new profile on the new site.
7. built-in affiliations. Anyone can create an affiliation, which is really just a tag, and can hand anyone a tag. Once this 'anyone' confirms, that tag is displayed on that site. Owners can transfer ownership, and add 'moderators'. Owners, moderators, and the warlock himself can remove a label at any time. But, I'm sure there are other good ideas to be had here and I haven't really thought too much about it.
8. RSS feeds for 'ready' notifications instead of email.
I stress again: This is just procrastination. Anyone else got interesting feature ideas?
