Well, my game with Slartucker ended in a mutual draw. I haven't had time lately to figure out how the D/P loop resolves. I believe the state of the game has evolved to the point where it's actually degenerated. Chess was more exciting before everybody knew the best openings, and the same goes for Warlocks. I believe there are more steps to the evolution here, even if D/P becomes a forced opening and the game truly begins on turn 40, not everything has been discovered. For the first time, I feel unprepared. And so, I will take a break until I discover the best way to break the stalemate, and the best way to beat the way to break the stalemate. When I return, don't open D/P against me. You'll regret it.

Chess was more exciting before everybody knew the best openings, and the same goes for Warlocks. Hear, hear. I'd rather win because I'm a better player than my opponent, not because I've memorised a list of this-vs.-thats. And I'd rather my opponent beat me for the same reason. If only there were some way to kick-start a game from in the middle, with both players as equal as it's possible to be on health and initiative combined.

I know, you would need something crazy... like... the fourth turn throwing a random gesture to get that kind of result...

Hah. I like that example.
But seriously - imagine that, at the beginning of every game, and maybe every 6-7 turns, the weather changes. Perhaps a cross a spectrum: Hot and humid - ice elementals only last 2 turns, fire elementals start with 4 health | | Bright and sunny - perhaps too bright, casters have 10% chance of missing targets. Ice elementals only last 4 turns | | Clear and fair - no effects | | Partly cloudy - no effects | | Light drizzle - monsters have 5% chance of slipping on wet ground | | Heavy Rain - monsters have 10% chance of slipping on wet ground, fire elementals only last 4 turns | | Downpour - monsters have 20% chance of slipping on wet ground, fire elementals only last 2 turns | | Flurries - monsters have 5% chance of slipping on icy ground | | Snowstorm - monsters have 50% chance of slipping on wet ground, casters have 25% chance of missing targets. Ice elementals start with 4 health

Why is it raining on a hell-plane?
More seriously, given the scarcity with which fire and ice elementals are used, and their lack of utility -- and ditto for storms -- this is a pretty insignificant effect. And assigning random miss chances to everything is annoying and random, yet doesn't even break the deadlock. Bleh.

Would wind affect magic missiles? Perhaps a lightning storm would hit a caster who has DFFD ready, because of the pent-up energy? Dust in the eyes?
Okay, maybe not.
