Hi everyone,
I did say I'd be back eventually, and I'm starting to feel the itch again, so here I am. Sort of. I had a nice vacation from the game, and one of the things I realized is that I enjoy it the most when I don't feel too many obligations to it. I plan to get back into the game a little bit, hopefully at a high level, although I don't forsee myself investing a great deal of time into posting on the forums (I might lurk a bit). Don't be surprised if you don't see me around all that much. I'm still interested in finding an elegant solution to the dominance of paralysis, so I might chip in a bit should discussions pop up around those.
As always, if you want to get ahold of me personally - either to discuss a game after the fact, ponder a strategy, or anything else, you're welcome to send me a PM.

I'm still interested in finding an elegant solution to the dominance of paralysis, Welcome back, but with a name like yours it's to be expected that you'll be AWOL from time to time. For an answer to paraholism, maybe the best bet is to fight it with your own paraholism. Normally, the people that give me the most trouble are the ones that are throwing para back in my face. There may be other ways, though, and I too am eager to see what you can come up with. Before you disappear again, throw a few VF's my way if you feel like warming up... ~F-Man

For an answer to paraholism, maybe the best bet is to fight it with your own paraholism. Normally, the people that give me the most trouble are the ones that are throwing para back in my face. Which of course is the best argument for it being unbalanced - if one person uses it then the other needs to also use it to compete fairly. It's not as bad in parafc as in default rules, but I remember a guide to surviving parafod written under the assumption of default rules, and I remember my first reaction: every counter strategy listed involves the defender also dropping what they're doing to start a parachain. Anyway, that's not really the topic of this thread I guess. Hi awall.

Which of course is the best argument for it being unbalanced - if one person uses it then the other needs to also use it to compete fairly. Well, that is one theory... but who's to say that's totally correct? Just because a 'non-para' answer to para may not have been discovered yet doesn't mean that one doesn't exist. It may just mean that you haven't found it, but maybe others are getting close to it. Toyotami, for example, much of the time will try to play a mostly 'non-para' style against my para style, and actually he's pretty successful with it. Some games he uses more para, too, of course, but he's shown versatility in that I don't think he 'needs' to overuse para to be as good as he is. And let us not forget the Grand Master of Warlocks. Bio uses para when he wants to, and when it's advantageous for him to do so, but he has surely demonstrated that he does not need it to beat the likes of me. See below: games.ravenblack.net/warlocks?num=72044&full=1games.ravenblack.net/warlocks?num=71754&full=1~ I think it's OK to talk about this in this thread as per Awall's earlier comment about finding an elegant solution to the widespread and rampant abuse of Paraholism in these parts.

Actually, it might be better to spawn off a new thread (start it by quoting relevant posts from this thread) just so that anybody who's browsing the forums and might be interested in joining in sees it. Right now, nobody who hasn't read this thread has any idea that para discussion is taking place.
As far as substantive stuff goes, I agree with both ellipsis (if the only answer to para is para, then it's broken) and succat (we have yet to prove that there isn't a better answer that doesn't involve para). My actual thoughts are more complex than this, but I'll go into more detail later when I'm not at work.

Succat Oh quit that 'grandmaster' thing please =( There is only one to be known as Grand Master of Warlocks, and it is not me by any margin.

i have to ask who it is. there are a lot of people i expect to lose to when i join in a game, but you're at the top of the list. When you're at the players page next, sort it by ELO, then click "show inactive warlocks"...
