So now we have two interpretations up here, actually - is it being officially agreed that the hand suffers summoning sickness?

Yes. the hand is summoned, then the next turn gestures are entered.

I have to say that this is a particularly cool rule and seems to be pretty thoughtfully constructed so as to be playable without big problems. MAJOR PROPS to hermit for this one.

one more question for the sake of explicitness: can you clap with the 3rd hand to dispell? this seems really messy in permanency situations and i would lean towards no; but it's about to come up in a game (i think) and i want to be sure before we get much closer to it.

The basic rule of thumb for the third hand is that it doesn't change in game mechanics. So no, you still need to clap with your real hands for dispel. That said though, I'm thinking that with a few more play tests, that stabbing would have been the only way to remove a hand. It's seemingly really easy to take that sucker out in the first 2 turns, probably more a sign of my impatients than anything though.

While it might just be evidence that people are paying a lot of attention to it and trying really hard to remove hands fast, they don't seem to last long after being summoned.

I think part of the problem is we made the hands worth +2 pts to cast, and +5 pts to destroy. For 5 points, a lot of people are willing to break spellflow. It's like half a win.

After looking at the Xade v Ellipsis battle, I have to agree -- the -5 for having a Hand Severed never seemed worth it...

you do have to lead up to it. if you can work a protection in to cover you at least for the first gesture, then it's pretty easy to keep up the disruptions since cDP/cWW, cwP/cw(W/F), or even cSP/cX are both decent, especially with the other hand for disruptions (that can't be completely canceled out). if you don't have a protection you can still get out of it by going defensive on the real hands and disrupting with the third, cDP/cPS or cW/cP are not bad ways start and would get you the +2 points without the -5 if you dispell, since you took it out and you don't net points for amputating yourself.

Another rule clarification (unless this already got brought up): do third-arm enchantments affect monsters? Presumably PSDF does not, but the others normally interrupt a monster for a turn, so should we say that one of these spells targeted at a monster requires that monster to target at nobody on the following turn? Would that be worth a league point? And as to protecting the third arm, I have a very amusing situation going on with Ourjake right now, where he's permanently paralyzed one of my hands into a P, which is normally pretty devastating, but since I have a third hand out I basically need to shield all the time anyway, and it offers very respectable disruption. And to be honest, I almost feel bad about getting so many points for severing Xade's arms, but them's the rules, and he never asked for mercy.

Nah, you can't target monsters with the arm. Also, the reason for the +5 is because you really start to rack up the points once you get the arm pumping. But yeah, it's a little bit too fragile- really damaging when you get it working (as you would be noticing Ellipsis. )

do spells cast by the third arm at yourself gain points if they are not canceled by anything?

It's particular effective in that it's hard for opponents to counter (since if they target themselves with an enchantment, it simply overrides the Third Arm's spell and takes effect), but chaining isn't actually very efficient, considering that FFF is useless unless your opponent also has a third arm. SWD can chain into DPP into PSDF, but then you've got that useless F staring at you. The highest-rate enchantment weave seems to be SWDPPSWDPP...

Chaining isn't too efficient, but considering the two other hands you have backing it up- I reckon it goes alright.
