First, to anyone with a 3-1 record who nonetheless did not make the top two places. If there are more than two such players, or less than two, which players get the spots are at the Judge's discretion based on meritorious play.

Uh... what happens in the result of double-death, or double-surrender?

I think I asked this already. It's a rematch, I believe. Although I'm not sure if that applies to group stages or just to the knockout.

What if your opponet doesn't join the battle in time to finish it?

Tell tales to Slarty.
(mpchatty was 20 days inactive with all 4 of our challenges unheeded but he seems to have woken up now)

Should we keep track of longest games? Shortest games? Etc?

Double death/double surrender: No special result. The only time this would cause something special is if it causes a round 2+ match to go 1-1-1, since those matches require having exactly 1 winner and exactly 1 loser. In those cases an extra game would be played. In round 1, there is no need -- a tie is a very legitimate result, and is factored in at more than a loss and less than a win.
Jes: Read the section of the rules on slow play.
Derfel: I don't understand what you mean.

I mean, for the end of the tournament, some special recognition going to whoever played the longest game, or who fell in the shortest number of turns, etc...

Ah, you mean for special awards? Like, ones that don't affect the tourney results itself?

ya, with special titles... like And the Taliesin Two Thumbs award goes to..... (the player that lost in the fewest turns...) etc.
or... Slartucker's Revenge award, or Nawglan's Magical Nine award... given to the player that when all Turns in all games played are divisible by 9 (given to the one with the highest number of turns if it is a tie).
And other such silly nonsense. I'm sure we can come up with quite a few.

Ha, I could have tried that on turn 5 with zen myself. I thought he might have learned that lesson from you though, given you'd already done it... nawglan are we all donating prizes now or what?

Special rewards are a good idea. I'll look into putting some together. Thanks for the idea!

If there is a special award for this year's sorest loser, I'd like to apply now. I am definitely soretastical. Sorarific. The sorester. Sorarmama. Doing the lose-lose. ;D My apologies the legions of SNL fans that have just cried out in pain. And my apologies to all the folks that aren't fans that have just cried out in pain. Basically, to all. Time to go nurse my wounds. Where is that nurse again? NURSE!
