I quite liked my game with nawglan, and not just because I won: games.ravenblack.net/warlocks?num=66951&full=1In my mind, I had already won the match as soon as my anti-spell landed, or maybe a few turns later. It was non-trivial to actually WIN the match, given nawglan's hardcore policy. It was a fun match, if nothing else.

(ps - I *hate* telling people their tells... now I'm never going to beat you! ) Or maybe you told him to make him think that you think he's not going to play it next time. Maybe this follow-up post was designed to make him think that you think he thinks he has the psychological advantage. Always stay one level ahead, but never two.

If I did anything I hope I helped you plan your end game a little better Jayef. I'm the speedbump that people have to get past to climb to the higher rungs. (arrogant? maybe? *grin*) -- Dez.

Always stay one level ahead, but never two. OBJECTION! BTZZZZZ.... ...to reach the 1800s you just need to be one step ahead of the people who just know the basics. Getting past 1950 requires that you are one step ahead of the people who are one step ahead...

Always stay one level ahead, but never two. OBJECTION! BTZZZZZ.... ...to reach the 1800s you just need to be one step ahead of the people who just know the basics. Getting past 1950 requires that you are one step ahead of the people who are one step ahead... Slartucker's quote, although unrelated to my point, does not contradict it. You have to stay one step ahead of everybody to win, whether they're 1500 or1900. Just because you are one step ahead of a 1900 and they are one step ahead of an 1800 does not make you two steps ahead of the 1800. However, the concept of "levels" is totally unrelated, and derives mostly from NL poker but also other types of psychological guessing games like this one, and rock-paper-scissors. Level one is "I'm going to do this". Level two is "My opponent is going to do this". Level three is "My opponent thinks I'm going to do this". Level four is "My opponent thinks I think he's going to do this". And so on. If you are one level ahead of your opponent, your guess will be correct. If you are two levels ahead, then in effect, they are one ahead of you and your guess will be incorrect. That is what it means to level somebody, and it is this type of leveling I referred to in my post. Example: You hold a reasonable hand, like say two pair or three of a kind, but a flush and straight are both possible on the board. You bet, and your opponent makes a huge raise. Level 1: "I'm beat, I will fold." Level 2: "He wants me to think I'm beat, I will call." Level 3: "He is raising too much because he wants me to think he's bluffing, I will fold." And this pattern continues until you correctly decide what level your opponent is on. This principle also applies to all decision points in Warlocks, but the levels tend to be more weighted and thus, easier to guess.

ExDeath I think what Slartucker wrote means that >1950 should be 2 steps ahead of <1800 =) But nevermind, I'm just nitpicking here. And - yes, I know what 'leveling' is. Because it is what fighters call yomi. == Just to warn everyone beforehand: I'll be away to Rome from morning 25th till evening of 28th due to a business trip. I'll do my best to enter a few moves per each day from there, but since I don't know anything about internet connection there, I really cannot promise it. I'll be playing in fast pace after I return, so this shouldn't really affect my tournament matches.

I was talking about something completely different there. I was saying a 1950 should be 2 steps ahead, but in a completely different context -- in terms of overall grasp of the game. NOT in terms of hypertheorizing decision points.

What happens when you are two steps ahead of your opponent, but don't know what their next step is? I think that's my problem...

Derf, I think you need to start focusing on getting Two steps *behind* your opponent

Toyo looks to be slack and can't send one either. Next time, use that PRIVATE checkbox.
